A mashup of ‘Leaf’ and ‘Leave,’ what it is and what it does, Leafve (lee’-fee) was born while I was driving as a rideshare driver. During a break somewhere near LAX airport, I ducked into a local nursery and grabbed a small ivy (which I can nerdishly now call an hedera) for my bedroom. I pushed it into my car’s cupholder and immediately thought not only how cool it looked sitting there, but more surprising to me was how differently I felt with it in my car. It was as if the whole atmosphere changed—I felt somehow lighter and fresher. It was amazing. But the best part was to come.

For the next few weeks, a parade of passengers continuously commented on the novelty of having a plant in a car, and how pleasant it was to see one there. Even to this day, my Uber profile has comments on the plant, my “co-pilot,” as someone called it. I realized I had something in Phyllis, as she had been named (for Phyllis Diller—the hair! The leaves!)

Fast forward to 2023, where we have the world’s first patented plant container, designed specifically for self-watering whilst sitting safely in your car, keeping you company at home, at work, or all three throughout your day.
